SWEDISH FILES

3 April 2016

How can I describe my overall impression of Sweden? I guess I can start with great tea, visually appealing, fashion institute and tranquil.

Anytime I take a wonder off to somewhere new, I have expectations as would anyone. Of course when I arrive, I come to realise it’s not as I thought it would be and instantly my first impressions kick in.

Friends neighbourhood
I flew in to Skavsta airport (in the middle of nowhere, may I add) surrounded by nothing but wide landscape travelling into the far distance. Now, although I am in touch with nature to some degree, I don’t do woods or anywhere with no sign of the living. Strangely enough I felt rather relaxed.

I was greeted with smiles and friendly conversation. The Swedes seem quite polite, I found myself jolting with surprise as many walked past saying ‘Hej’. Caught off guard at how friendly people were, I found myself saying it to those near by too. Definitely not something I’m used to seeing in London.

I took a coach into the city of Stockholm, thoroughly enjoying the tour, which took me from old villages and long highways to a bright and beautiful town.

I glared in awe at the simplicity of outfits as I walked the streets and wondered through various underground stations with a friend of mine. It was lovely to visit her hometown and engage in the Swedish culture. Just like Amsterdam, most people ride bikes, it was wonderful getting from point to point without traffic for once.

I spent most of my time, grocery shopping and hanging out in my friends neighbourhood, talking to people about the collections at every Acne studios store I could find, looking out to lake Mälaren, eating, eating again oh and more eating.

Kladdkaka, meaning 'sticky cake' was the best chocolate dessert to ever enter my mouth!
It's similar to a brownie and is most likely consumed with ice cream or whipped cream
What I loved most about Sweden was the contrast of old authentic historical buildings and modern constructions. Regardless of the age of any building, anything in sight looked like a work of art. Sweden gave me rivers, the countryside, city life, forests and fields, a wonderful balanced contrast of sights you would require from different locations around the world.

I would love to return just to take a number of long strolls & boat rides around the city of Stockholm.

Until next time folks..xx
