OLIVIA POPE

Olivia pope? I’m hoping that’s who comes to mind when you look at this post. At least that’s the character I felt like when dressed in this outfit. 

While the fashion trend of investing in a pair of thigh high boots was in full effect this winter season, I opted for knee-highs instead. Of course they weren't my original intention, but when I saw these knee-highs in Aldo I just had to have them. The leather and soft fur had me at ‘try me on and take me home’.

As seen in previous posts, I’ve become a fan of leggings again. They’re super comfortable, practical and easy to throw on with almost anything, hence why i’ve worn them in previous posts. 

As for my coat, I’ve been a lover of long clean cut or draped designed coats for a few years now. Having not been a fan of them before as I felt they drowned outfits, I’ve grown to appreciate them as fantastic accessories and additions to make an outfit pop. I’ve spent more money and attention on coats this season then anything else. 

The right out garment, can change everything. This particular one hangs perfectly on the body and makes me feel elegant yet fierce, quite like the character Olivia Pope in the hit series, Scandal. If you like the idea of a political thriller, with twisting unexpected plots as well as media and crime related events to solve, then ‘Scandal’ is for you. 

Olivia Pope (played by Kerry Washington) is the main character of this series and by far the best dressed on any TV show i’ve seen in a while. Before hearing her speak her style screams, powerful, sophisticated and elegant. Her work ethic and personality sure does match up to her appearance. There’s no telling this woman means business. 

I’ve been inspired by the way she dresses and think many women who wish to pull of a elegant conservative look ought to take notes. Every outfit is simple, a vibe and style i’d love to pull off from this year onwards. 

Her style is mostly exhibited in her coats, suit jackets, blouses and perfectly straight or wide tailored trousers, particular statements I’ve grown fond of and have worn as of late last year. Olivia’s style is a constant reminder that she wears the trousers wherever she goes and what woman wouldn’t want their style to exude such an effect? Her strong feminine tailoring, classic clean-cut silhouette neutrals, modern and immaculate look is one to admire and certainly a distinctive sense of style that has inspired me for this year ahead.
