TEYANA TAYLOR TO THE RESCUE!

17 November 2014

There's hope for RnB! Teyana Taylor might just be the heroine to save the day!

New and top favourite album of the year goes to Teyana Taylor. The singers album ‘VII’ was released 04/11/14 and thank god it did. Other than her friend Chris Brown’s ‘X’ album, 'VII' has been on repeat since. I simply can’t get enough of it!

Teyana has grown and matured since her first public eye appearance in MTV’s reality series, ‘ My Super Sweet Sixteen, ‘ released 2007. Chasing her music career, i’ve seen an immense and definite improvement since her first single ‘Google me’ from her debut mixtape ‘From a Planet Called Harlem.’

In preparation for her album release this year, Teyana has regularly been releasing snippets and teasers off of her track list leading up until her album launch date. She certainly had me hooked.

'Business'
The past couple of years has showcased female singers with beautiful ghostly toned voices such as Jhene Aiko and FKA Twigs, a category of which i’d also place Teyana.

An underrated artist such as herself has done well in bringing authenticity to R&B today. I must admit that this album took me back to the 90’s, hence why I mentioned she could be crowned as the heroine of such a genre. Over the past two years i’ve listened and indulged myself into an incredible amount of house music, amongst other genre’s and felt that R&B was at a stand still, lost with no sense of direction and concrete talent to bring it back to life. That is until Teyana came along and showed us what she was made of.

With features from artists like Fabolous, Chris Brown, Pusha T & Yo Gotti, there’s no doubt that this album is fire! With sexy tones, smooth interludes, lyrics of heartache and bump and grind suggested dance moves, this album is definitely a number one R&B hit maker in my book.

My favourite songs on the album & personal star rating:
Request -  (***)
‘Request’ expresses that Teyana is offering her partner to request a performance from her. Sang in a soft an sensual tone, this track is definitely a great slow jam.

Do not disturb (ft Chris Brown ) - (*****)
Chris Browns vocals on this track compliments Teyana Taylor’s a great deal. The tone of this song is quite sexual, illustrating the hunger in two people wanting each other.

Broken hearted Girl (ft Fabolous) - (*****)
Broken hearted girl is track five on the album. As Teyana expresses her feelings in wanting a particular guy, yet going through the struggle of being hurt, Fabolous steps in and tells her to stop frontin’and get on with it. You can always count on Fabolous to deliver a well suited solid verse.

Put your love on - (****)
This reggae inspired song is a lovely surprise to the album. The baseline and island connective vibe gives the listeners ears a refreshing break from the theme of a sultry tone. I can’t help but do the bogle to this one.

Maybe (ft Pusha T & Yo Gotti) - (****)
Maybe is one of the first singles off of the album I heard and loved straight away. Excited about new music, I rushed to tell my friend Oliver about it, to find out he had already heard it before me and agreed that it was fab too.  I thought the feature choices of rap artists were great for this track, helping to take it to the next level.

In the Air - (*****)
In the air is probably one of the most tracks I play off of the album. The song is perfectly placed towards the end and once again delivers another smooth, smokey and heart felt song. I can’t help but sway and sing along to it during my car journeys around town.

It could just be love  - (*****)
This is the final song off the album and definitely a success as she demonstrates herself and talent as an R&B artist.

As I perhaps have clearly expressed, I love this album and Teyana as an artist and think she has proved herself to many fans as well as others. Teyana Taylor has grown since her first appearance in the media and music industry and shows clear signs of potential. I look forward to finding out what she's up to next.
