#Kendrick Lamar . Kung Fu Kenny . KDot #Wakanda Forever
I Kicked off my February in the spirit of African American black history month with Black Panther vibes and like my mother, I don’t do anything half ass. I took to the Kendrick Lamar concert on Monday 12th February in all vinyl and a beret.
The show opened with King Kenny’s own personal Kung Fu film. As we know, it was also Chinese New Year this past Friday 16th and I felt this addition was both a relevant cultural mood setter and comical touch to the show. The set got off to a epic start with ‘DNA’ as the first chosen track, accompanied by shooting flames and tones of incredible cultural visuals throughout.
While hyped there was an unforgettable moment I highly appreciated - a stillness, silence, unexpected and emotional scene.
Within the last hour kendrick stood still as he humbly watched the crowd roar after having performed songs from different albums and projects back to back. The roaring sound from the crowd was nothing other than a standing ovation of clapping joined by lights from i-phones that mirrored diamonds in the sky. I’ve been to many concerts and gigs, but none of which showed such respect for an artist. It was only right. After all, it is Kendrick Lamar - an intellectual and lyrical genius! He smiled at the crowd, nodded gracefully, wiped a tear and thanked everyone.
Here’s what he performed on the night:

BLACK PANTHER The movie: no spoilers ahead
A MUST SEE FILM! THAT IS ALL
In case you’re unaware Black Panther is phenomenal! It’s named the best reviews superhero movie of african representation ever.
As a Marvel film based on its comic, directed by Ryan Coogler, I feel this one is a game changer, where some of the best black hollywood actors and actresses as well as Kendrick Lamar (who offered us the soundtrack) came together to create a film that’s unlike any other superhero movie anybody would see.
I could sit here and ramble about it all day - goodness there’s so much to talk about, but it really is a movie you have to experience for yourself.
What should a superhero film be about? What type of superhero should be in it? Black Panther is a not only superhero movie but so much more. Black superheroes are filtering the mainstream and it’s incredibly exciting! I watched the entire film wanting to be Danai Guria with her spear, who plays Okoye - I love to see a strong and fierce woman who stands by her beliefs.
